WHo WE ARE
The Confessing Church was a movement for revival within the German Protestant churches that developed during the 1930s, arising from their resistance to Adolf Hitler’s attempt to make the churches an instrument of National Socialist (Nazi) propaganda and politics.
Today—we follow in their footsteps, refusing to let our faith become a political pawn. We do not owe our loyalty to any political party, leader, or national institution. As followers of Jesus Christ, our identity is grounded first and foremost in the Gospel and it’s teachings.
The Confessing Church USA works to embody Jesus’ message of love and hope by supporting projects and policies that lift up the least, the last, and the lost.
INTO THE WORD
"Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act."
— Dietrich Bonhoeffer
What Was The Confessing Church?
“First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”
- Martin Niemöller
